DESCRIPTION
Prepare for Día de los Muertos by PAINTING YOUR OWN piece of calavera-themed art! Calaveras, or sugar skulls, enjoy a unique place in Mexican Día de los Muertos traditions – existing both as a part of somber ritual and serving as a playful sweet treat.
Oak Park artist PATRIS has partnered with Día de los Muertos Oak Park to host this event, the third in our lecture and workshop series.
Attendees will be treated to a brief introduction to the calavera, its cultural significance, and uses in observing Día de los Muertos by community member and event organizer Claudio Cisneros. Participants will then be guided by renowned artist Patris in completing their own acrylic painting featuring a calavera, which will be theirs to take home at the end of the workshop.
Come out to CREATE your own piece of Día de los Muertos art!
No experience needed. All materials and a complimentary beverage are included in the registration fee. Cost is $35. Seating is limited to 20 participants. Advance registration is required.
